Spoke by phone with Paul Garred from The Kooks about the forthcoming new album Konk. Here’s how it sounded:
George and Dallas from Alexisonfire stopped by the X92.9 studios for a chat. They’re in town for some shows and will return New Years Eve for the X92.9 bash. It’ll be their last North American show for quite a long while as after things wind down they’ll head back into the studio to work on a new album. Here’s the interview in two parts:
Stars were in town for a sold-out X92.9 presentation at Mac Hall. She took some time out to chat with me about showering with multiple people, the environment, and of course her band Stars (and Broken Social Scene). Have a listen:
(it’s a big file, so give it some time to start)
Vanity Fair is doing a big issue on their Top 50 soundtracks of all time. The issue will be out next month, with a TV sepcial to follow in December. So far they’ve just released their Top 10, which I think is sorta stinky:
#1.) (The soundtrack from) “Purple Rain” (–By PRINCE.)Â
#2.) (The soundtrack from) “A Hard Day’s Night” (–By THE BEATLES.)Â
#3.)Â (The soundtrack from) “The Harder They Come”. . . (–reggae music.)Â
#4.)Â (The soundtrack from) “Pulp Fiction”. . . (–’70s soul music.)Â
#5.) (The soundtrack from) “The Graduate” (–By SIMON
#6.) (The soundtrack from) “Superfly” (–By CURTIS MAYFIELD.)Â
#7.)Â (The soundtrack from) “Trainspotting”. . . (–British rock music.)Â
#8.) (The soundtrack from) “Saturday Night Fever” (–Includes THE BEE GEES.)Â
#9.)Â (The soundtrack from) “American Graffiti”. . . (–Rock and oldies.)Â #10.)Â (The soundtrack from) “The Big Chill”. . . (–R&B and soul.)
Lynch has proclaimed Singles the best soundtrack in movie history. I disagree. Right off the top of my head, I’d say Garden State is a stronger soundtrack. Singles might be the best of the 90s, but that’s it. What do you think? Best soundtrack - not including movie musicals or concert films? Sound off!
Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace came by to have a chat about his new solo album The Hunter’s Lullaby . Here’s the interview:
A few people popping by our studios at 17th Ave and 2nd on the Red Mile this week. On Tuesday at 2PM Winnipeg’s Weakerthans are gonna stop in and perform live. You’re more than welcome to come down and check it out. Wednesday, same time, Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace is going to stop in and chat up his new solo album. I’ll keep you posted if more artists are lined up.

What have friends of X92.9 the Dudes been up to? They’re playing a show here in town on September 22nd, and will be dropping by our studios at 17th and 2nd to play some live songs. They’ve been holed up in Toronto recently recording a new album and caught the attention of the CBC:
