I think the romantic comedy catchphrase from Jerry Maguire has it all wrong. If you’re looking for someone to complete you you’ll never be happy. You’re better off trying to make yourself a complete person, then looking for someone who compliments you. I don’t mean vocally, but as a compliment to your life and lifestyle. Greg is weird, which we know. He’s also after someone who completes him. Bzzzt. Bad.  What do you think?

I’ve been in Calgary about a year and a few months now, and just today I noticed that Shoppers Drug Mart (and other Calgary pharmacies) sell cigarettes. In Ontario they haven’t been able to sell them for years…the theory being that a place that’s main purpose is health care, and helping people get better shouldn’t be in the business of selling a product that mostly makes people sick or kills them. What’s your feeling on this? We talked about it and got the alberta rules from a listener:

By now everyone knows that Greg Beharrell, evening/weekend host on X, is a strange fellow. I’m of the opinion that one must enjoy the little things in life, like a dog, or a nice sunset, or a new clock radio. Greg thinks all the little things are worthless. Saturday, Newsboy made the “Mrs.” in “Mrs.” Newsboy official. I Emceed the wedding, and also made an appearance at the ceremony. The ceremony was held in a real live church. We talked about making church more appealing to young people with a animatronic laser Jesus, and how for a few minutes I was an unintentional douchebag. Listen:

Greg Beharrell is a weird dude. He hosts Thursday and Friday evenings, and weekend afternoons on X92.9. We’ve made a bit of an ongoing segment about some of his “quirks.” Today Greg told us that the only reason a guy should go to a movie is with a girl, otherwise it’s a waste of time. Listen:

On Thursday, Cheryl Wallach from the Calgary Humane Society brought by another pet up for adoption - as she does every week. This week she also brought along photographer Robin Kuniski, who’s done some work with X92.9 and works regularly for Metro. He took a whole bunch of shots, and lo and behold, Friday morning, I was on the cover of Metro sharing kisses with Chipper the Chihuahua mix. Here’s the shot:

Today I was talking about Pet Peeves, and soliciting yours. My main ones:

• People talking, cell phoning and texting in movie theatres or at plays. Even checking the little glowing screen is annoying and douchey.
• Slower drivers who won’t get out of the left (passing) lane
• People in front of me at the bank machine who take for-effing-ever.

I was surprised by the volume of calls. I’ll have to make it a regular thing to let people vent. Feel free to add your beefs here. These are the calls:

Pet Peeve Callers

I used to be embarassed by the things my parents did and said in public. My mom called me Joshy until I was in my 20s. Lately though, I’ve learned that it’s too late to change them, and it’s better (and more fun) to appreciate their quirks. I recently spent some time in Florida hanging with my folks…here’s audio of the story:
